Poppies on the Isle of Ischia. There are a lot of extraordinary locations around the world. Ischia Island is filled with inspirational plein-air scenes around every turn in the path. While exploring the area where we were staying, we came up on this house surrounded by a field of poppies. The random red flowers rallied against the green background and pale walls of the building. It reminded me of Claude Monet’s Coquelicots painted in Argenteuil, France. This scene could only be done in an impressionist style. Quick short unapologetic brush strokes creating a rather haptic appearance when closely analyzed, but a pleasant scene when viewed a few feet away - painted in oils on 20 x 16 inch canvas.

Deacon Brodie's Tavern is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. The traditional red telephone booths on the sidewalk in front of the tavern provides contrast to the green hues of the building. The vertical lines of the telephone booths are further in contrast to the multiple horizontal lines of the building behind across the composition. The story of the tavern is interesting. This painting is oil on 12 x 20 inch canvas.

Religious symbolism is present in this composition of a church. The red doors symbolize Christ's sacrificial blood. The quatrefoil above the doors is a common architectural element in churche that represents four overlapping leaves. The crosses are symbols of the Christian religion. Stained glass commonly communicates a narrative. The steep roof pitch is also a common architectural element in church design. Oil on canvas 20 x 16 inches.

This pair of Muscovy ducks pass by year after year. Over the years, they've become a little more short of breath as they paddle by. Although these ducks aren't as regal looking as some other types of ducks, they make a cute couple. Oil applied in a heavy impasto layers on 20 x 16 inch canvas.

Somewhere between Los Angeles and San Diego, there's still an area that isn't overwhelmed with coastal buildings. This painting captures the nature's layers from the blue skies to the layers of coastal mountains, then a layer of sandy beach, and finally the Pacific ocean at the bottom of the 24 x 20 inch canvas done in oils.

Simple symbolism of youth. A tire swing hung from a strong limb of an old Oak tree. Everyone has pleasant memories of hanging out by a tire swing, getting pushed higher and higher! This was painted with oil colors on a 12 x 16 inch linen panel with thick impasto brush strokes in an impressionism mood. The man who acquired this painting gave it to his father for his birthday for all the memories of being pushed by his dad every day after school while growing up.

Sitting in Profile is a study done in charcoal and oil on a 12 x 12 inch canvas. The image of a woman quietly emerges from the canvas with the model's eye in contrast to the remainder of the artwork creating the central focus. This piece explores the transformation from line art to the depth and form created by soft brush strokes of color.

Boat on Blue. Oil painting on 40 x 30 inch canvas, 2015. A wooden lapstrake sailboat is reflected in the calm waters of the infinite expanses of the blue sea and skies in this waterscape.
