Muscovy Ducks Painting

Muscovy Ducks
This pair of Muscovy ducks pass by year after year.  Over the years, they've become a little more short of breath as they paddle by.  Although these ducks aren't as regal looking as some other types of ducks, they make a cute couple.   Oil applied in a heavy impasto layers on 20 x 16 inch canvas.

Psyche with a Red Box

Psyche (revisited)

Psyche with a Red Box is an oil drawing on 16 x 13 inch Egyptian papyrus paper.  The soft contours of the winged figure are contrasted by the vertical and horizontal lines of the natural construction of the papyrus support.

This piece was inspired by Psyche painted by Nikolaos Gyzis (1842 - 1901) done in the Symbolism style.  An image of the original work can be seen here at Wikimedia Commons and I think it was painted in 1893.    Psyche was a human, but became the Greek goddess of the soul after marrying Cupid.  Gyzis’ painting appears to show a box on Psyche’s lap.  This could be the box of sleeping potions Psyche retrieved from Persephone in the Kingdom of the Dead which was the fourth and last task assigned to her by her mother-in-law, Aphrodite prove her love for her husband and to restore her marriage to Eros.
